Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Gary W. Black alerts consumers to the recall of all salad products produced by State Garden of Chelsea, Mass.
The products may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in the young, elderly, frail and those with weakened immune systems. In pregnant women, Listeria infections can cause miscarriages and stillbirths.
The salad products were produced on Jan. 4, 2011 and have the codes 45693 and 45703 located in the upper right hand corner of the product label. The “best if used by” dates will be before Jan. 16, 2011.
The State Garden salad products and blends were distributed to retail stores on the East Coast under various sizes and packaged under the brand names: Gold Quality, Hannaford, Natures Place, Natures Promise, Roche Bros, Northeast Fresh, Noreast Fresh, Olivia’s Organics, Signature and Wegmans.
Those who have purchased these products should not consume them. They should be returned to place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions should contact State Garden at (888) 841-6191.
